Eeda is Ambitious

#Movie Review

My decision to watch “eeda” was impulsive, the film was on 2 pm and by the time I got a bus from my college it was already 1:30 pm. Needless to say I was late for the movie but sadly missed the first 5 minutes of the movie. Now about the movie, it is directed by a former editor in the Malayalam film industry, B. Ajithkumar, and stars Shine Nigam, and Nimisha Sanjayan in the pivotal roles. The presence of Shine Nigam and the trailer was what hooked me to watch this movie, I loved his performance in the movie Parava, so I was expecting a lot from that actor. I also liked Nimisha in “thondimuthalum dhrisakshiyum”. They lack an extra ordinary chemistry in the movie but there character motivations where loud and clear.

The movie is a romantic film interlaced with political drama, it showcases the political situation in Kannur. The lead characters Nandhu (Shine) and Aishwarya ( Nimisha) are part of rival political groups, as the story demands they fall in love with each other, and decides to get married, but seemingly the political situation in there village breaks loose over a series of murders and they are divided by the politics that surrounds them, it is said to be an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, so does it packs all the ingredients necessary for being one. The films wins where the political drama is shown. It is row and fresh, but when the relationship between nandhu and ammu is discussed it struggles to find ground. However the performance of both Shine and Nimisha where good. also most of the supporting cast was on point too. The film suffers from pace issues, overall the editing could have been better.

The cinematography by pappu was flawed. Especially shots filmed during nights where bad. Sometimes the scene does look night but sometimes the actors and scene is lit obnoxiously for a scene supposed to be in night. Also these shots are mixed together so badly it feels like a continuity mistake, but apart from that it stands tall and delivers the message. The film made me think, and I would recommend it to anyone.
